FLAMES
FLAMES Calculator Online — Your Relationship Test.
The free online FLAMES calculator, played by name and by the book. Shared letters get struck out, and one letter is left standing — a verdict, not a percentage.
How to calculate FLAMES by name
FLAMES eliminates letters rather than scoring them, so it helps to see one play out. Here is exactly what happens for one sample pair — your own names will run through the identical process above.
How the wheel got there
Step 1
Strike the letters in common
A single letter sits in both names. Out it comes.
Step 2
Add up the survivors
That leaves 3 on one side and 2 on the other. 5 letters go to the wheel.
Step 3
Lap 6 letters, counting 5
E falls. 5 still standing.
Step 4
Lap 5 letters, counting 5
M falls. 4 still standing.
Step 5
Lap 4 letters, counting 5
S falls. 3 still standing.
Step 6
Lap 3 letters, counting 5
L falls. 2 still standing.
Step 7
Lap 2 letters, counting 5
A falls. 1 still standing.
Step 8
Last letter standing
The wheel stops when one is left. That is the answer.
What does FLAMES stand for?
Friends, Lovers, Affection, Marriage, Enemies, Siblings — the six outcomes on the wheel. One survives; the rest get struck out along the way.
How are letters eliminated?
First, any letter the two names share gets struck from both — one for one, so a doubled letter only cancels twice if it is doubled in both names. Whatever survives that gets counted around F-L-A-M-E-S, knocking one letter out per full lap, until a single letter is left standing.
What happens if the names cancel out completely?
It happens with anagrams and identical names — every letter finds a partner, so nothing is left to count. The calculator shows that state honestly rather than forcing a fake winner.
How do you calculate FLAMES by hand?
Write out both names and cross out every letter that appears in both — one crossed pair per shared occurrence, so a letter doubled in both names cancels twice. Add up whatever's left in each name, then count around F-L-A-M-E-S that many times, striking out the letter you land on each pass and skipping any letter already struck, until one letter survives. That's the verdict — Friends, Lovers, Affection, Marriage, Enemies, or Siblings. This calculator runs the exact same process for whatever two names you type in.
